Tourism is among the UK's most important industries and a growing source of employment. London, with its art galleries, theaters and historical buildings, remains the major destination. However, many visitors choose to bypass the capital and head straight for the Roman splendors of Bath, the Shakespearean theater of Stratford-upon-Avon, medieval York or the Highlands of Scotland. Americans are the main visitors to the UK, although fear of terrorism and recession in the USA have recently dissuaded some from making the trip.
